The NFL lockout looks set to cause some serious harm to the pending NFL is the labor dispute is not resolved soon. Many sports experts are reporting that this could be the worse thing that has happend to the NFL in it’s long history.
Reporter Adam Schefter is reporting (via his Twitter feed and ESPN.com) that Judge Nelson has told both sides in the ongoing labor dispute that she’ll be forcing them back to the negotiating table to talk things out. Surely we all will be hoping that things can get resolved sooner rather than later.
I and many others truly believe this is the way forward as once Judge Nelson has ruled at least we know where things are heading. At the moment with both factions unable to come to any agreement this seems a long way off.
However as you might expect when lawyers and big money get together the NFL are still expressing considerable concern over who has jurisdiction with a complaint before the NLRB still unresolved.
The good news is for sports fans by effectively throwing the two sides together Judge Nelson can avoid the jursidictional issues and get this thing resolved faster, since a ruling would lead to appeals and eventually a trial, all of which would drag this out for far longer than it needs to be.
Hopefully both sides can bend a little and meet in the middle (which is what compromise is about after all). It sure would be nice to have this issue resolved before the draft. Maybe the answer is to throw both sides in to a room with cola and pizza and not let out except for bathroom breaks. You never know it might actually work.
